Raphael Saadiq’s credentials are undisputable: He’s an R&B and soul music icon. He cut his teeth as a member of Prince’s backing band, then made hits as a member of the new jack swing group Tony! Toni! Toné!. He’s also a prolific collaborator: As a producer, he’s worked with Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Solange, Miguel, TLC, and Mary J. Blige, and he was an occasional member of the production collective the Ummah (alongside Q-Tip, J Dilla, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad). Saadiq has released a string of solo albums starting with 2002’s Instant Vintage, and his last album was 2011’s Stone Rollin’.
