Sufjan Stevens has shared a new song from Javelin, his album that’s out October 6 via Asthmatic Kitty. “Will Anybody Ever Love Me?” finds Stevens playing every instrument on the song, where he’s joined by vocalists Adrienne Maree Brown, Hannah Cohen, and Megan Lui. The single also arrives with a music video by Stephen Halker. Watch the video below.

“The first time I sang the song, I started crying. I was so moved by the honesty of the questions,” said Adrienne Maree Brown in a statement. “Sufjan is an impossibly brave and gifted writer.”

Javelin is Stevens’ first solo LP since 2020’s The Ascension and is billed as a return to the singer-songwriter days of Seven Swans and Carrie & Lowell. He recorded the album with the aforementioned friends Brown, Cohen, and Lui, as well as Pauline Delassus and Nedelle Torrisi. The National’s Bryce Dessner also plays acoustic and electric guitar on “Shit Talk.” Javelin comes with a 48-page book of art, collages, and essays, all made by Stevens.

“Will Anybody Ever Love Me?” follows the record’s lead single, “So You Are Tired.” Read more about Javelin in “The Most Anticipated Albums of Fall 2023.”
