The Los Angeles-via-D.C. singer Kelela Mizanekristos makes otherworldly R&B that also calls upon elements of UK club music. On her 2013 debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me, she established her brand of dark, sensual dance hooks and shimmering, airy vocals. Her 2015 EP, Hallucinogen, found her paired with new collaborators (Arca), as well as old ones (Kingdom, Nguzunguzu). She was only getting started: In 2017, Kelela released her debut album, Take Me Apart, full of her sexiest, most thoughtful, and most texturally intricate songs yet.
