Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have given their new song “Bongos” its live debut at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Accompanied by a ton of dancers wearing bright colors and, yes, some bongos, they gave a choreography-heavy performance of their brand new song. Watch a clip of the duo's performance below.

“Bongos” is Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s first new song together since 2020’s “WAP.” They released the song on September 8, along with a tropical, choreography-heavy video directed by Tanu Muino, with whom Cardi B also worked on the videos for “Up,” “Wild Side,” and “Rumors.”

Although it’s been five years since she dropped her debut LP, Invasion of Privacy, in 2018, Cardi B has continued to release singles, including last year’s “Hot Shit.” She has also put out a steady stream of features, sharing “Jealousy” with Offset, “Put It on da Floor Again” with Latto, and “Point Me 2” with FendiDa Rappa this summer alone.

Megan Thee Stallion surprise released her second album, Traumazine, in August 2022. Over the winter, she testified against Tory Lanez in an assault trial that found him guilty of shooting her in July 2020. Megan faced rampant online harassment leading up to and during the trial; after, she wrote an essay in Elle deeming the guilty verdict “a victory for every woman who has ever been shamed, dismissed, and blamed for a violent crime committed against them.” These days, her upcoming schedule includes more light-hearted fare, including a role in A24’s upcoming film Dicks: The Musical.
